Location Production Practical test notes-
Tripod and Basic set up-
- Erect tripod and secure the camera
- Attach the battery and insert the media card
- Connect monitor, switch on and ensure connect source is selected
- level tripod head and balance camera
Camera Settings-
- initialize the menu system, format the media card, and reset timecode
- Set resolution to 1080, set framerate to 50i
- Perform a manual white balance
- Switch FOCUS, IRIS, and ZOOM into MANUAL mode
- Set exposure controls to 0dB GAIN, 1/50 SHUTTER SPEED, ND FILTER OFF, APERTURE/IRIS FULLY OPEN
The image below is for some of the camera settings above, these are how the camera looks when these settings apply.
Audio Setup-
- Connect rifle mic to the camera via XLR cable and connect your HEADPHONES to the headphones input
- Ensure the rifle mic is recorded to CHANNEL 1 with MANUAL level; control
- Ensure the internal mic is recorded to CHANNEL 2 with AUTOMATIC level control
- Test that the mics are recording correctly to the correct channels
- Select your headphone audio out to be CHANNEL 1 only
The images below show where to adjust these settings and what they look like when the rules above apply.
Lighting Setup-
- Erect the light stand and arrach lamp in a safe and secure manner, ready to work.
- Test that the mains socket is safe to use (use the socket tester, see if the lights have a steady green light flash meaning it is safe to use. if any red then it is not safe to use and a sign is needed for that socket)
- Connect the RCD and test that it is functioning correctly (push reset, set, and reset again)
- Switch the lamp on, whilst taking necessary safety precautions (have the wire under a leg of the stand, use gloves from this point forward, don't have all of the cable weight on the back of the light secure it with rope or velcro)
- Adjust the barn doors and demonstrate the flood and spot controls (the control on the side or bottom of the lamp)
- Safely arrach a gel/filter to the front of the lamp (with the clips, make sure the light is off when attaching and wear gloves as the barn doors may be hot.)
Panasonic 160 Menu-
Recording Setup - Rec Format - PH 1080/50i
AV Out Setup - Audio Out - CH1/CH2 - This will affect the audio channels.
Display Setup - Zebra Detect1/2- Will change the percentage levels of white needed for Zebra stripes to show up on the screen
Display Setup - Safety Zone - 90% - Gives a border on the viewfinder as a guide for 'safe' framing
Card Functions - Card Format - Slot 1/2 - Be sure to format your card before you start filming.
